Income generation programmes for DOVE women groups are essentially needed. There are very less job opportunities in our area due to poor infrastructure and lack of natural resources. The literacy rate is minimal and people are not trained on specialized skills that could fetch them good jobs. As a result they are almost daily workers and agri coolies. For them small working capital, either in the form micro credit of capital funds is needed to enhance their income. They are rural people physically and mentally strong, willing to work hard and long hours, provided they are given startup capital for any income generation program suited for them. For this purpose, DOVE has identified the following income generation opportunities for them,
(a) Supplying milch animals like goats and cows. This will be a successful venture as there is vest stretches of land with grass available for cattle feed.
(b) Startup capital to set up petty shops and helping them to get space and stalls to sell grocery vegetables and fruits in weekly markets, held every day at different nearby rural towns where large number of people gather and make their weekly purchases
(c) Here in our area many households own their traditional land in a small way like 1 or 2 areas especially women, from their parents as loving gift. The lands are fertile but due to poverty they could not develop it and cultivate. They need to be tilled, construct a borewell and cultivate vegetables like drumsticks, which are most common in our soil that fetch good earning by selling them in the local market. Greens and fruits like mango, suppotta and panana and guava grow well in this red soil. This small-scale cultivation will enhance the income of these families and they can use the cattle waste as natural manure.
