Upgrading the current DOVE school into high school adding more classes and intake of more students from marginalized families and vulnerable communities is the need of the hour. We have to put in proper infrastructure with more classrooms and sanitary amenities. Especially due to covid-19 outbreak hundreds of families from our area have returned back from their work places in metropolitan cities like Chennai and Mumbai where they migrated decades back. Now those daily workers have come here like refugees with their children and minimum belongings. They are settled at the surrounding villages and rural towns in make shift accommodation. There is no chance of their return back to their earlier workplaces in far off cities due to covid-19 spread. They are in a compelling situation to remain here and seeking daily work elsewhere. They are not educated or skilled workers. So, they have to avail any work come in handy to them like working in hotels, petty shop’s, plumbing assistant, agri coolies and other manual work in construction sites and brick kilns. There children are in more pitiable condition as they are uprooted from their migrant places and schools where they studied earlier. Now they are to be admitted in nearby schools in our area. But the families are in no position to spend on their education though they are willing to send their children to schools. DOVE school is situated in their midst with minimal fees as prescribed by the government. DOVE school is providing quality education in English medium which will help their children in future while seeking job opportunity. Also, DVOE school it is not running on profit motive but for helping those children from poor background to have better education, competing with other private schools. There are already many children seeking admission and it is more beneficial for these children to upgrade DOVE school into high school once covid-19 situation stabilizes and schools reopen again from this academic year.
For Long DOVE has felt the need to establish an arts and science college with job-oriented curriculum suited for the youth. In its 20 years of existence, DOVE has been helping hundreds of children complete schooling up to higher secondary level. Most of them are being helped to pursue college education, both arts and technical courses like nursing, engineering and vocational. Many numbers of them apt for arts colleges also. In our experience a number of such aspirants have completed B.A, B.Sc, B.Com, B.CA, B.B,A degrees. After getting one of there degrees, they turn to appear for competitive exams and land in good jobs. This has been easier for them because of the acute porty prevailing in their families and the need to seek a job fast to help their aged parents and boost their family in come. The existing constraint is the high cast involved in completing college education which includes hostel and mess fees, bus fares, tuition fees which they could not afford. Also. government run colleges are very few in our area and not all the students seeking admission get seats. Those private colleges are thriving on eliciting higher fees where students from marginalized families could not seek admission. As a result, those children who complete +2 education do not enter into college education and pathetically landed at daily work like their parents. Considering the need to provide higher education for children from vulnerable communities, DOVE has worked out a plan already to establish an Arts and Science College on co-ed mode. A number of youths in this project area stand benefited once this project is realized. DOVE is in possession of a 3-area land in a strategically located area with proper road access connecting many villages and rural access in the vicinity. Construction cost for buildings and other equipment needed for the college is urgently needed so that the long time dream of the youth in a vast area will be realized.
